Question

What is the normal index for neonatal jaundice?

Answer

Neonatal jaundice, also known as infantile jaundice, refers to a clinical condition in which bilirubin metabolism is abnormal in infancy, leading to elevated bilirubin levels in the blood and subsequently causing yellow discoloration of the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera. This is one of the most common clinical issues in infants. Physiological jaundice is a temporary jaundice caused by bilirubin metabolism and typically appears 2 to 3 days after birth, reaches its peak between 4 to 6 days, and gradually subsides within 7 to 10 days.
