Question

Why do newborns experience intracranial hemorrhage?

Answer

Intracranial hemorrhage occurs when blood vessels in the brain rupture, causing blood to leak into the cranial cavity. Depending on the location of the bleeding, it can be categorized as intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or subdural hemorrhage. Intracranial hemorrhage in newborns is one of the most common causes of injury during childbirth and hypoxia. Other possible causes include thrombocytopenic purpura, aplastic anemia, hemophilia, and late-stage vitamin K deficiency.
