Question

My baby is 15 months old. On the early morning of May 3rd, she had a fever and then suddenly experienced stomach pain during the day. The pain is intermittent. We went to the hospital and they said it was intestinal spasm. It has been three days now. She has a fever every morning but not during the day, but she still has stomach pain during the day. Is this serious? What kind of medicine should I give her? How should I take care of her?

Answer

Fever and abdominal pain in children are often considered as a possibility of acute mesenteric lymphadenitis. Acute mesenteric lymphadenitis (AMLN) is a viral infection that affects children under eight years old and often occurs in conjunction with or secondary to upper respiratory infections. It is more prone to recurrence. Fever may occur occasionally. After an ultrasound examination, if the mesenteric lymph nodes are enlarged, the following treatments can be administered. If diagnosed with lymphadenitis, no special treatment is generally required. If symptoms are severe, fasting, intravenous infusion, and antibiotic use can significantly improve the condition. Pay attention to rest and avoid strenuous activities and exercise.
