Question

My baby developed diarrhea after switching to a new baby formula. Initially, there were discomforts and an increase in stool frequency, followed by greenish stools with bubbles. Could this be the cause of the formula change? After switching back to the original formula, the condition has not improved. What should I do?

Answer

Babies have weaker digestive system adaptation abilities. If the method of changing formulas is not appropriate, it can lead to diarrhea. The transition to new milk should be done alternately and gradually. On the first day, add 1/3 of the new formula to the original formula and let it adapt for two or three days. If the baby can tolerate it, adjust the ratio to 1:1, meaning a 2:1 ratio of new to old formula, and continue for two or three days. Finally, complete the transition to the new formula. If the baby is on complementary foods, you can offer some carrot or apple puree to help alleviate diarrhea symptoms caused by the change in formula.
