Question
For the past half month, it has happened twice. The stool test showed up to 4-5 WBCs at its worst. Can this be judged as enteritis? Do I need to use Amoxicillin or other antibiotics? Additional question for the first time: Can probiotics be used? The medicine you mentioned seems to be unavailable here!
Answer
Diarrhea in babies is quite common. This is because the baby’s gastrointestinal function is not fully developed and is rather delicate. Therefore, it’s easy for them to have diarrhea if they are not careful. Of course, if the bacteria are not eliminated, they will have recurrent fevers. Fever reducers can only alleviate the symptoms but not treat the root cause. Moderate low-grade fever (not exceeding 38.5 degrees) is recommended not to take fever-reducing medicine. Fever itself is the baby’s own white blood cells fighting against bacteria, which is a form of self-immune protection. The main thing is to identify the cause of the baby’s fever and kill the virus or bacteria, and the fever will naturally subside.
