Question
My son is one year old, and he keeps vomiting when he eats. He has no problem with rice porridge or egg custard, and thin crackers, but if he eats fried eggs or slightly firm apples, he will definitely throw up or vomit. I don’t know what’s going on. Other children of this age can already eat rice dumplings. Could you please tell me what’s happening?
Answer
Gastroesophageal reflux could be the cause. The child may regurgitate food or partially digested food from the stomach back into the esophagus, which sometimes leads to nausea. Sometimes, the child may try to swallow the food residue. The regurgitated food residue may also irritate the esophagus, causing discomfort.
