Question
My baby is over 40 days old, and the doctor said they have a mild enteritis and prescribed medication. However, the stool my baby has been passing recently has a bit of something that looks like white strips at the end. Is that normal? Could there be any issues? Thank you!
Answer
The stool condition of breastfed babies can vary greatly. Newborns may have more than 10 bowel movements a day, or they may not have a bowel movement for 3-4 weeks, or they may only have one bowel movement, all of which are within the normal range. If the stool is very loose, it may indicate that the baby has lactose intolerance or food intolerance issues. In this case, it is necessary for the doctor to confirm the baby’s growth and development status and see if further treatment is needed.
