Question

A newborn has already reached one month of age and has recently started to frequently experience hiccups. How should one perform a massage to help alleviate this symptom?

Answer

If a newborn does not have any other diseases and suddenly starts to hiccup, it usually does not require special treatment, as hiccups will naturally stop after a while. If the hiccups persist for a longer period, over 5 to 10 minutes, one can hold the baby upright after feeding and gently pat their back, or softly massage their abdomen to aid in flatulence , in order to prevent hiccups and regurgitation. However, if the baby continues to hiccup and shows symptoms such as reduced appetite, weight loss, or persistent vomiting, medical assistance should be sought.
