Question
My baby is still quite young and has just a few months old. Recently, they’ve been experiencing diarrhea, and I’m very worried. I’ve been feeding them less, and the color of their stool is a bit off. Now, since my baby is so young, I’m afraid that giving them medicine might not be good for them. Do newborns need to take medicine for diarrhea?
Answer
If your baby has been having diarrhea quite frequently this month, it may be necessary to administer medication. Additionally, you should avoid exposing them to cold conditions. Pay more attention to staying hydrated. If you are breastfeeding, the mother should avoid eating spicy foods that might stimulate the baby. It’s best not to overfeed them at this stage. However, after more than a month, the frequency of bowel movements will significantly decrease. Generally, it won’t exceed three times a day. If there’s no improvement, you should take your baby to the hospital for further stool tests and regular check-ups.
