Question
My daughter is three months old and feels congested when sleeping, breathing through her mouth, and also sneezes during the day. The congestion has not improved for two weeks. How should I handle my newborn’s nasal congestion?
Answer
Nasal congestion in newborns should be handled by cleaning it as much as possible. Adjust the room’s humidity and temperature to an appropriate range. If the congestion is severe, hold the baby upright with the chest elevated, which can help relieve nasal mucosal edema. If the baby has a runny nose, first apply warm saline solution to moisten the nasal cavity, and then gently massage the baby’s nose and cheeks on both sides to allow the mucus to be discharged naturally. It is not recommended to use devices similar to nasal aspirators, as external intervention may cause discomfort and fear.
