Question

Why can’t I gain weight?

Answer

I’ve never gained weight, from junior high to college. There’s nothing seriously wrong with my body; I don’t have picky eating habits, and I eat enough. I also go to the bathroom regularly, and my parents are not very familiar with this. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that body weakness is often due to low spleen and stomach function and insufficient Qi and blood. The spleen is the root of acquired energy, the source of Qi and blood generation. When the spleen and stomach are healthy, Qi and blood are abundant, leading to plump muscles and strong limbs. Conversely, the body becomes thin and limbs become weak. To treat thinness, it is first necessary to rule out various chronic diseases such as hyperthyroidism, liver disease, kidney disease, and tumors. Then, traditional Chinese medicine treatment can be adopted, which can be very effective. The issue of being thin is even more complex than being overweight. People who want to gain weight have different situations. They can generally be divided into four types: delicate type, malabsorption type, high metabolism type, and diligent type.
