Question

My baby is now five years old, and I recently feel like he might have cerebral palsy. I’m not very familiar with cerebral palsy and would like to consult a doctor. What are the symptoms of cerebral palsy in children?

Answer

The symptoms of cerebral palsy include: 1. Feeding difficulties after birth, such as weak suction and swallowing problems. 2. Uncoordinated movement, with asymmetric movement and random movement being rare. 3. Delayed motor skills. For example, by 3 to 4 months, the child cannot be held upright in a prone position. By 4 months, the forearms cannot be used to support the body weight; hands are often clenched, and hands cannot be put into the mouth. At 6 to 7 months, the child still cannot roll over and sit for a while, and so on. 4. Abnormal muscle tone, with posture and movement patterns often being unusual. 5. Children often cry rapidly, with few movements, low crying sounds, or crying that is stimulating and easily startled or recurring with meat.
