Question
Admitted at 25 days of age, diagnosed with encephalopathy. CT report shows decreased density of the frontal, parietal, and midbrain tissues, slightly enlarged ventricles, mild ischemia and hypoxia. No abnormal developmental findings at birth. Can hold up the neck when held upright, but there is some backward tilt. Is this normal?
Answer
From my experience, the current condition of this mother’s baby is a normal phenomenon in infant development. We should have confidence in our baby, and also in ourselves. Additionally, do not frequently pick up the baby to test whether he or she is normal; very young babies should primarily be kept lying down. Remember to talk to the baby regularly, speaking to them when they eat, drink water, and sleep, such as “Baby, time to eat, you’re so good.” Such interaction is also beneficial for the baby’s brain development. Furthermore, it is recommended to purchase a “Infant Development Chart” and stick it on the wall for constant observation; this is very helpful.
