Question
I always feel that my child’s response is not good, like an intellectually disabled child. So, what are the early signs of intellectual disability in children?
Answer
The signs of intellectual disability in children are relatively apparent and can generally be detected by parents. Children over one year old may not be able to speak well. Intellectually disabled children are indifferent to their environment. They are very quiet throughout the day and rarely cry or fuss. Such children are often praised for their excessive quietness and are easily overlooked for their intellectual issues. Hyperactivity is also a characteristic of some intellectually disabled children. Many intellectually disabled children cannot sit still for long periods and are constantly active. Their attention span is significantly shorter than that of normal children.
