Question
I’ve had congenital vaginal agenesis since I was a child and now I have a boyfriend. I want to get treated. How is congenital vaginal agenesis treated?
Answer
Congenital vaginal agenesis is caused by abnormal development of the reproductive organs during the embryonic stage. Currently, surgical treatment is most commonly used, with over 20 different surgical methods available. However, these methods have various drawbacks, such as significant surgical trauma, and the artificial vagina constructed may experience dryness, unpleasant odors, and dissatisfaction with sexual life, which can have adverse effects on both partners’ physical and mental well-being. Therefore, the current treatment methods still require improvement, and a new type of vaginaloplasty with fewer side effects, less trauma, and greater alignment with physiological requirements needs to be developed to treat congenital vaginal agenesis.
