Question

My child has enuresis, wetting the bed every day. I would like to know what treatment methods are available for enuresis?

Answer

Enuresis, as we call it, is more common in children. Generally, only 20% have enuresis by the age of 4, and 5% by the age of 10. A few patients may continue to have enuresis into adulthood. Patients with enuresis should undergo bladder function training, drink more water during the day, and try to extend the interval between two urinations to increase urine volume, gradually increasing bladder capacity. Encourage patients to interrupt urination in between and count from 1 to 10 before finishing urination to enhance the control ability of the bladder sphincter. Medication treatment can also be considered.
