Question
A one-year-and-11-month-old boy has been unable to sit or stand independently, and has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy by the hospital. What are the causes of this condition, and how should it be treated?
Answer
Cerebral palsy, abbreviated as CP, refers to non-progressive brain damage or brain developmental abnormalities that occur before birth or within the first month after birth, leading to central nervous system motor disorders. The causes of cerebral palsy are diverse, including genetic and chromosomal disorders, congenital infections, brain developmental malformations or maldevelopment, fetal brain ischemia and hypoxia leading to periventricular leukomalacia or basal ganglia damage, among others. Additionally, factors after birth in newborns, such as central nervous system disorders that occur between one week and three or four years of age, can also contribute.
