Question

My son is 7 years old and attends kindergarten. He spends his lunch breaks at school as well. Today, he wet the bed during his nap at school and was teased by other children. When he came home, he refused to go back to school. I took him to the doctor, who said this is bedwetting caused by folic acid deficiency. What should we do?

Answer

Sometimes, we shouldn’t worry about bedwetting. Bedwetting can be normal in older children. If a child is overly excited or exhausted during the day and is overly tired, the nighttime sleep state may be too deep, causing the child not to wake up immediately after the bladder swells. Secondly, a common cause of bedwetting is delayed development of the cerebral cortex, which cannot inhibit the urinary center of the spinal cord. After falling asleep, the detrusor muscle contracts uncontrollably and releases urine. If the symptoms persist, it is advisable to see a doctor immediately.
