Question
My baby is 5 months and 1 day old, and he had diarrhea suddenly tonight! He drinks formula milk, and usually has a bowel movement once a day in the morning. Tonight, he had diarrhea, mostly water, in a jet-like ! (Yesterday, he threw up a few times, and after going to the hospital and being diagnosed with a cold, he received intravenous fluid therapy and anti-inflammatory treatment for a few days.)
Answer
Diarrhea, also known as indigestion, is a gastrointestinal disorder caused by dysfunction of the spleen and stomach. It commonly occurs in infants under the age of 2. Diarrhea can be categorized into infectious and non-infectious types. The infectious type is usually caused by bacteria and viruses, such as rotavirus-induced diarrhea after respiratory transmission; the non-infectious type is often caused by overly cold or hot food or poor digestion. Infants’ gastrointestinal tracts are not yet fully developed, with less digestive enzyme secretion, making them more susceptible to indigestion and diarrhea.
