Question

My baby is 23 days old and is exclusively breastfed. The jaundice value on the forehead is 12.7, and there is more frequent vomiting. Should I stop breastfeeding? Is drinking glucose water and sunbathing beneficial for jaundice regression? I would like to inquire about newborn jaundice levels?

Answer

Jaundice may occur when the bilirubin level exceeds 17.1 mmol/L. Your baby’s jaundice level is slightly elevated. Treatment options include blue light therapy and oral medication, such as jasmine. Sunlight can also be effective. Breastmilk jaundice can be temporarily stopped for three days. You can take your baby to the pediatrician for a consultation, follow the doctor’s advice, take good care, often expose to sunlight, and if necessary, provide a substitute for breast milk feeding. Medication control and phototherapy may be required if needed.
