Question

My daughter is now over 8 months old. This morning, while I was changing her clothes, I noticed a large abscess on her chest. Some of it has ulcerated, and upon hospital check-up, I found out it was impetigo herpetiformis. What is the difference between neonatal impetigo and impetigo herpetiformis?

Answer

Impetigo herpetiformis is mainly caused by viral infection, with obvious blisters on the skin; while impetigo is often caused by bacterial infection, possibly presenting as soft pustules. If neonatal impetigo is detected early, it can be quickly treated; otherwise, it may prolong the condition, even leading to large areas of skin desquamation. It is recommended to give the child plenty of water to drink, take warm baths, and urinate regularly. It is suggested to visit a larger hospital for consultation.
