Question

I would like to ask how to treat nocturia in adults? My sister is now nineteen years old. Last time when she came back from university for the holiday, she wanted to sleep with her sister (me). When I woke up in the morning, I found the bed was wet. I was shocked. After asking my sister, I learned that she had wet the bed, and this is not the first time. It is still considered enuresis at this age.

Answer

Enuresis refers to still having nocturnal enuresis at this age. The most common causes are spina bifida and myelomeningocele, which affect the function of the spinal cord and lead to neurogenic bladder issues, such as bladder contraction and loss of neural control, resulting in bedwetting. First, a color Doppler ultrasound and residual urine test should be performed. If this condition is confirmed, a lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan should be done, followed by surgery after diagnosis.
