Question
My baby is only 9 months old, and last week I took him to the mall for a half-day shopping trip. He might have been infected there. Since coming back, he’s been feeling uncomfortable. He was later diagnosed with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Now he has had a high fever for three days and it doesn’t seem to be going away. What should I do for a 9-month-old baby with Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease if the fever doesn’t subside after three days?
Answer
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease can cause an increase in body temperature. If the high fever persists for three days, there is a risk that it may require the use of glucocorticoid hormones for necessary treatment. In theory, symptomatic treatment for fever reduction and comprehensive antiviral medication are relatively ideal methods. If the baby was infected at the mall, it is mainly due to contact with pathogens, such as items touched by Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease patients, which are easy to transmit. There may be a need for hospitalization.
