Question

My baby has jaundice after birth. What is the normal range for pediatric jaundice?

Answer

The normal range for neonatal jaundice is approximately 3mg/dl. Typically, the level peaks between four to five days after birth, at around 10 to 12mg/dl. No treatment is needed as long as the level does not exceed 12mg/dl. Encourage your baby to drink more water, get sunlight exposure, and the jaundice should disappear naturally within about two weeks. If pathological jaundice is considered, medical treatment should be sought promptly.
