Question

I accidentally twisted my ankle during pregnancy. My baby was born at 7 months. It’s because of the preterm birth that led to cerebral palsy. Now the child is 3 years old. They don’t cry or laugh, and their physical movements are not coordinated at all. I am really worried about my child. How can I distinguish mixed type pediatric cerebral palsy?

Answer

These symptoms may be indicative of tremor-type cerebral palsy, primarily affecting the visual pathway and cerebellum. The characteristic is an involuntary and rhythmic oscillation of a part of the body within a plane. The manifestation of tremor-type cerebral palsy is mainly static tremors, with rhythm and temporary suppression of consciousness and movement, most commonly seen in the upper limbs. There may also be kinetic tremors and nystagmus. Simple tremor-type cerebral palsy is relatively rare, and should be treated with physical therapy, drug-assisted treatment, and appropriate surgical correction for severe joint spasticity and deformities.
