Question

A few years ago, my eyes were still in good condition. However, recently, due to excessive eye strain and long-term fatigue, I have developed myopia. I’m not sure if eye rolling therapy is effective for treating myopia?

Answer

Eye rolling does not have an effect on myopia treatment. The rotation of the eyes is controlled by external eye muscles. Glasses adjust the focus by regulating the ciliary muscles within them. Normally, when looking at a distant object (such as stars, where the light is almost parallel), the ciliary muscles are completely relaxed, and the lens returns to its original state, with the focus precisely on the retina (very far). When a person with true myopia looks at a distant object, the ciliary muscles relax and the lens returns to its original state, but because the eye axis of true myopia is too long, the focus falls before the retina, making it difficult to see distant objects clearly. By alternating between looking at distant and near objects (which can exercise the ciliary muscles), pseudo-myopia can be treated and help relieve eye strain in hyperopia, but it has no therapeutic effect on true myopia.
