Question

What are the presentations of children with intellectual disability?

Answer

Children with intellectual disability typically exhibit the following characteristics: they cannot stay still in one place, are constantly on the move, and this is most pronounced between the ages of 4 and 5. This hyperactivity is different from the lively and active nature of normal children; they lack a clear purpose and it is an uncontrollable excitement. They may touch surrounding objects and even bump into chairs or stools without lifting them up. Children with intellectual disabilities have difficulty concentrating, with their attention span significantly shorter than that of normal children. Even by the age of 5 to 6, their attention to a single thing will not exceed 5 to 6 minutes. Additionally, they show relatively less interest in the outside world.
