Question

I’ve noticed that my child has been sweating excessively while sleeping lately, and I’m worried it might be rickets as mentioned online. I’d like to ask, how can we determine if a child has rickets?

Answer

The causes of rickets include insufficient calcium and vitamin D reserves in pregnant mothers, inadequate calcium and vitamin D intake in babies, rapid growth of the baby, insufficient parathyroid hormone secretion, and imperfect liver and kidney function. General symptoms include obvious night terrors, excessive sweating, restlessness, square head, and hand (foot) deformities. In severe cases, there may also be signs such as costochondral beads, costochondral grooves, pigeon chest, O-shaped legs, and X-shaped legs. Based on these symptoms, we can determine if a child has rickets.
