Question

My daughter is 6 years old. Initially, she said she felt pain when swallowing, and I noticed that her voice was a bit hoarse. She also had a slight fever and seemed listless. How should I treat my child’s sore throat caused by tonsillitis?

Answer

For better treatment of tonsillitis, it is recommended to select some anti-inflammatory medications under the guidance of a doctor, and also to undergo local treatments, including tonsil crypt irrigation, tonsil intralesional injection, laser therapy, and others. If the child has a sore throat, painkillers can be administered as appropriate. In case of fever, choose a cooling method based on the body temperature; physical cooling can be applied for temperatures below 38.5 degrees Celsius, while oral antipyretics can be taken for temperatures above 38.5 degrees Celsius. If the child experiences multiple acute severe episodes of tonsillitis or has complications, it is advised to perform tonsillectomy two weeks after the acute inflammation subsides. During the treatment period, it is important to ensure the child’s warmth and avoid exacerbating symptoms by catching a cold.
