Question

What are the possible clinical symptoms when a child has tonsillitis?

Answer

When a child develops tonsillitis, most children may experience a sore throat, accompanied by ear pain. Along with the sore throat, some children may also have a fever, ranging from a low-grade fever to as high as 40 degrees Celsius. The child may also feel headaches and general body aches. They might experience chills and fatigue as well. Due to the congestion of the pharyngeal mucosa, the tonsils may swell. If not treated promptly, it may lead to complications such as rheumatic fever, nephritis, and sepsis. Therefore, pediatric tonsillitis is a serious condition that can even threaten the child’s life, and parents should take their child to the doctor promptly.
