Question

Dear parents, my son is just over 3 months old. Initially, he said his throat was sore, and I noticed that swallowing seemed a bit difficult. He also has a low-grade fever. How should I treat my child’s severe sore throat?

Answer

If a child has tonsillitis, first-line treatment can include symptomatic antibiotic medications. Regional irrigation or spray can also be used, as well as intratonsillar injections of symptomatic medication, all of which are effective. Painkillers can also be administered based on the child’s condition, especially during severe throat pain, to help alleviate discomfort. Physical temperature reduction can be applied if there is a low-grade fever. If the body temperature exceeds 38.5°C, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly. These are common treatment methods, but if the child’s tonsillitis recurs frequently, it is advisable to undergo surgery as soon as possible and ensure the child gets adequate rest and consumes more vegetables and fruits.
