Question

My child is a 5-year-old boy. Initially, he said he felt pain when swallowing, and I noticed he was coughing more severely. He also had a low-grade fever. How should we diagnose and treat infant and toddler tonsillitis when they are crying?

Answer

In treating such diseases, some symptomatic antibiotics can be given to the child, along with regional rinsing or spraying, or even injecting symptomatic medication into the tonsils. The efficacy is quite good. In necessary cases, such as when the child has severe throat pain, some painkillers can be administered. If the child continues to have a fever, parents should also give some antipyretic medication, or immediately take the child to the hospital. If there are multiple acute severe cases or complications have already occurred, it is recommended to perform tonsillectomy after the acute inflammation subsides for two weeks. During the treatment period, attention should also be given to maintaining dietary hygiene and ensuring enough rest time.
