Question

Dear parents, our daughter, now 5 years old, is experiencing a sore throat, severe cough, and persistent high fever. How should we treat her low fever tonsillitis?

Answer

If a child has tonsillitis, anti-inflammatory medication can be considered for treatment, as well as laser therapy or medication irrigation. For symptoms primarily characterized by throat pain, painkillers can be considered. When fever occurs, choose a cooling method based on body temperature; it is recommended to use physical cooling methods when the body temperature is below 38.5 degrees Celsius, and oral fever-reducing medication can be taken when the temperature is above 38.5 degrees Celsius. If severe symptoms or complications arise, it is suggested to consider tonsillectomy two weeks after the acute inflammation subsides. After recovery, it is recommended to allow the child to engage in moderate exercise, enhance immunity, and prevent recurrence.
