Question
My son is 3 years old. At first, he felt pain when swallowing water, and I noticed he had a cough and a low-grade fever. How should I treat my child’s sore throat caused by tonsillitis to achieve the best results?
Answer
Antibiotics are the most commonly used method for treating pediatric tonsillitis and can be considered. Additionally, regional application of medications can be considered, such as tonsil crypt irrigation or injection of medication. If the child mainly has a sore throat, parents are advised to give some painkillers to relieve the pain. If the child has a fever, cooling measures should also be considered. If the body temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, it is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible. For children with recurrent acute and severe cases, or those with complications, it is advisable to undergo tonsillectomy after two weeks of subsidence of the acute inflammation. During treatment, attention should also be paid to maintaining good dietary hygiene and sufficient rest time.
