Question

An 8-year-old boy always has difficulty seeing things clearly; he sees people as if they are in mosaic. Upon examination, it was found that he has symptoms of amblyopia and strabismus. How should congenital amblyopia be checked and treated?

Answer

Covering therapy is an ancient yet effective method for treating amblyopia, particularly suitable for children. This method is simple, cost-effective, and highly effective, applicable to refractive amblyopia and monocular strabismic amblyopia. Depending on the condition of binocular vision, one can choose to cover an equal amount of eyesight, covering both eyes for 3 days alternately; if there is a difference in binocular vision, a 4:1 or 5:1 ratio can be adopted, covering the stronger eye for 4 days and the weaker eye for 1 day, in order to promote more training for the weaker eye and achieve the goal of improving binocular visual balance.
