Question

The child says they can’t see the blackboard clearly and has double vision. The examination result is strabismus. What’s the difference between amblyopia and myopia?

Answer

Amblyopia refers to a condition where there is no organic inflammation in the eye, but the eye cells do not grow and develop normally. The vision in amblyopia cannot be corrected to 0.8 or above even with glasses. Amblyopia is sensitive to light and may result in strabismus. Additionally, amblyopia may be hereditary. Myopia occurs when, during accommodation relaxation, the focus of parallel light rays is in front of the retina instead of on the retina. With glasses, myopia’s vision can be corrected to 0.8 or better.
