Question

Can childhood epilepsy be cured?

Answer

Epilepsy is one of the common diseases in neurology. Early diagnosis of epilepsy, with proper understanding and application of scientific treatment methods, can achieve suppression of recurrence in 75-80% of cases. Among them, 60-70% can have their recurrence completely suppressed after 2-5 years of treatment, and those with normal EEG can gradually reduce medication or even stop taking medication. Approximately 50% of patients will not experience recurrence after receiving regular medication. Additionally, 20% of patients suffer from intractable epilepsy. However, with accurate diagnosis, proactive treatment, and appropriate methods, the vast majority of patients can achieve satisfactory suppression of seizures or reduce the frequency of recurrence and improve their quality of life.
