Question
Female, 8 years old, my child has always had poor physical condition and often gets fevers and colds. I would like to know what to do when a child has a fever of 37.9°C?
Answer
Generally speaking, a child’s body temperature above 37.5°C indicates a low-grade fever, so the baby is currently experiencing a low-grade fever. When the fever is below 38.5°C, you can use a wet cloth to wipe the child’s neck, armpits, and groin areas to assist in heat dissipation. Encourage the child to drink plenty of water, and if the indoor temperature is appropriate, allow the child to cool down a bit. In terms of bedding, try to keep it open as much as possible without making the child feel cold, and avoid sweating. It is generally recommended to administer oral fever-reducing medication only when the fever exceeds 38.5°C.
