Question

The 9-week-old baby has been feeling unwell recently, and it was only just discovered that they are sick. How should I treat my baby’s cold and cough?

Answer

The baby’s main symptoms are in the nose, with mucus dripping down and irritating the throat, causing coughing. Due to symptoms like mucus, chills, and easy blockage of the tear ducts, eye boogers may reappear. You can gently massage the baby’s root of the nose and the inner sides of the eyes, and offer some warm water (for breastfed babies, frequent breastfeeding is recommended). Observe carefully for 2 days; if the symptoms persist and worsen, consider oral medication for treatment. The baby should be encouraged to breastfeed frequently as it can act as a substitute for water. You can also feed some thin rice porridge regularly.
