Question

What are the symptoms of cerebral palsy?

Answer

The early symptoms of cerebral palsy are not obvious and gradually manifest as the child grows. For example, at 3 months old, the baby cannot lift its head and chest while lying on its back; at 4 months old, the hands become stiff and continue to clench into a fist, and the head cannot be lowered while sitting; between 4 to 5 months old, it cannot roll over or pick up objects with its hands; at 5 to 6 months old, it cannot sit in a natural posture; at 6 to 7 months old, the legs cross when supported to stand; and at 8 to 9 months old, it cannot crawl. These manifestations indicate a delay in growth and development. Additionally, increased muscle tension, rigid limbs, dislike for the head to tilt back, and only having a startle response after 6 months are all early symptoms of cerebral palsy. It is recommended to seek detailed examinations in the hospital promptly to obtain a clear diagnosis and receive appropriate treatment.
