Question

Dear Sir/Madam, My daughter is just 3 months old and has recently started to complain of a sore throat while talking. I’ve noticed that she seems to have difficulty swallowing, and she has a persistent high fever. How should children with tonsillitis be treated?

Answer

The first step in treating pediatric tonsillitis is for parents to give their child some anti-inflammatory medication. Regional treatments, such as tonsil crypt irrigation and intratonsillar injections, can also be used. If necessary, such as when the child’s throat pain is severe, some painkillers can be administered. Additionally, if there is a fever, some antipyretic medication can be taken. It is still recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible for persistent high fever. If there are multiple acute severe episodes or complications have already occurred, it is suggested that tonsillectomy be performed two weeks after the acute inflammation subsides. Pay attention to a light diet during treatment and consume mainly liquid foods.
