Question

A 29-year-old female. She had a cold with coughing for a while, and taking cold medicine didn’t help. She went to the hospital for a check-up and was diagnosed with ground-glass nodules. She wants to learn more about this condition.

Answer

Ground-glass nodules are a specialized term in pulmonary thin-section CT imaging, referring to focal areas of increased density within the lung. The edges of these shadows are clear or unclear. Moreover, the inflammatory density is not sufficient to obscure the vascular bundles within them, creating a typical sign known as ground-glass opacity nodules. It’s as if a small piece of ground glass has been draped over the lung tissue. Additionally, based on the amount of solid component they contain, they can be divided into pure ground-glass nodules and partially solid nodules.
