Question
What Are the Symptoms of Cerebral Palsy?
Answer
The early symptoms of cerebral palsy are not apparent and gradually become evident as the child grows. For instance, at three months old, the baby cannot lift her eyes or chest when lying on her back; at four months old, her hands do not open and she still clenches her fists; at four to five months old, she cannot roll over or pick up objects with her hands; at five to six months old, she cannot sit and her posture when sitting is not as natural as that of a normal child; at six to seven months old, when supported to stand, her legs cross; and at eight to nine months old, she cannot crawl. These all indicate developmental delays. Additionally, there is an increase in muscle tone, some stiffness in the limbs, and the head does not like to tilt back. After six months, these are all early signs of cerebral palsy, along with the startle reflex. It is recommended to go to the hospital for a detailed examination for an accurate diagnosis and treatment based on the symptoms.
